About Willy Ceysens
Willy Ceysens (1929 – 2007) was born in Neerpelt, Belgium, into a family with a background in painting and jewelry making. Initially trained as a goldsmith, he later ventured into various artistic pursuits. His portfolio ranged from traditional church objects like candlesticks to more contemporary pieces such as mythical creatures, coffee tables and wall sculptures. Ceysens also took on commissions for larger sculptures and wall installations for municipalities.
Using sand-cast aluminum as his primary medium, Ceysens crafted sculptures and artworks characterized by a rough yet elegant finish. Their raw and unfinished quality adds a unique charm and allure to his creations. His eccentric style aligns with the decorative arts trend that emerged in Belgium, particularly in Brussels, during the 1970s.
